What the sources say for Orange County

We did not find a countywide price from a cost site. Homeyou has a page for Irvine. It says a typical pest control cost there is $86 to $856.

Homeyou prints the same average line on its city pages, so it is not a separate check on each city. Lloyd Pest Control says a one-time treatment in Orange County is $150 to $400 and ongoing service is $40 to $80 a month. That page also shows no date.

National figures

Fixr says a pest control visit costs $158 to $288 across the country, and regular treatments cost $471 to $867 a year. Bob Vila says the average is $200 to $600.

These are national figures, not Southern California ones. We found no published local figure from either site.

Why the numbers differ

The sources cover different places and dates. Some are cost sites and some are pest control companies. One-time treatments, monthly plans and yearly plans are also different things, so check which one a figure means.

Use the ranges to spot a quote that looks far off, not to guess an exact price. Ask each company what its price includes and how often it will visit.

Licences and how to check one

In California, pest control is licensed by the Structural Pest Control Board, which is part of the Department of Consumer Affairs. It is not the Contractors State License Board. The board licenses Operators, Field Representatives and Applicators. An Operator can own and run a company. Field Representatives and Applicators work for a registered company.

To check a company or a person, use the board's verification page, which points to the Department of Consumer Affairs License Search. You can search by name, business name, licence type or licence number. For a cancelled licence, call the board at 916-561-8704.

Local Business America does not check licences, verify businesses or rank them. Please check the board yourself before you hire anyone.
