Free listing sites for contractors: where to list your business

A contractor can list a business in several places for free. This page names five, and for each one it quotes the company's own page. It is a plain list, not a ranking. Free listings can sit next to paid products on the same site, so read each site's terms before you sign up for anything.

What each one says about its free listing

Each line is quoted from the official page named beside it, as we read it in October 2026. Follow the link to see it in place.

Which to do first, and why

Start with Google Business Profile. Google's own page says that creating a Business Profile and listing your business on Google is free. It also says you can manage your business from Google Search and Maps. That is why it is a sensible first stop.

After that, the order is up to you. Yelp, Nextdoor, the Better Business Bureau and Angi each say on their own pages that a basic listing is free. This list is not a ranking. We do not say any one is better than another.

How to fill a listing in well

Write your business name, address and phone number once, in one note. Copy the same words into every listing. Do not use Main St in one place and Main Street in another. Use the same phone number everywhere.

Add your opening hours and a link to your website. Say what work you do in plain words. When something changes, such as a new number, fix every listing the same day.

Free and paid on these sites

A free listing is one product. Most of these companies also sell other products. We only say what each page says. Yelp's page says a claimed page does not mean the business is a paid advertiser. Angi's page calls the profile free, and the same page talks about leads.

Before you enter a card number or sign anything, read that site's own terms. Check what you would pay, how long it lasts and how to cancel. If a price is not clear, ask the company in writing.

Where a local directory fits

A local directory lists businesses in one town or area. A listing there is one more place where your details are right, on a page that people in your area can find.

It is a small extra. Start with the listings above and your own website. No directory can promise you calls or a ranking.

How Local Business America works

Local Business America is a small, local option. It is a network of local guides and business directories covering a small number of areas so far: South Orange County, North County San Diego, Temecula Valley and San Diego in California, North Atlanta in Georgia, and Park City and Summit County in Utah.

Every business in a guide has a free listing with opening hours, a map and a link to its website. Claiming is free, and a person checks each claim. Essentials is $19 a month and adds a photo gallery, an enquiry form and Google reviews. Premium is $39 a month and adds a boost to the top of its category and a do-follow link to your website, and removes other businesses from your listing page. You can cancel any time. How a Local Business America listing works

Every business in one of our guides has a free listing, with opening hours, a map and a link to its website. Claiming it is free.

A listing is not a lead service. We do not sell leads, we do not promise calls, and we cover a small number of areas so far. It is a page about your business in a guide to your town.

Common questions

What are the free business listing sites for contractors?
Google Business Profile, Yelp, Nextdoor, the Better Business Bureau and Angi each say on their own pages that a basic listing is free. A local directory can be a free extra. Read each site's terms.
Is there a free contractor directory?
Yes, there are several. The sites on this page each have a free listing option. Local Business America is a small, local one: every business in a guide has a free listing.
Which citation site should a contractor do first?
Google Business Profile. Google says creating a Business Profile and listing your business on Google is free. After that, add the others you want. This page is not a ranking.
What is a citation?
It is any place online that mentions your business name, address and phone number. A listing is one kind of citation.
Do I need to use the same name, address and phone everywhere?
It is a good habit. Customers who find you in two places should see the same details. Pick one way to write them and copy it each time.
Does a free listing mean I will never pay?
Not always. A site can offer a free listing and also sell other products. Read each site's own terms before you pay for anything.
Will more listings put me at the top of Google?
No one can promise that, and we do not. Accurate listings are a sensible base, not a guarantee.
Does Local Business America check licences or sell leads?
No. We do not check licences, give verified badges, sell leads or promise calls or rankings. A person does check each claim.
