Yelp advertising alternatives for local businesses

Yelp Ads are paid by the click. Yelp's own help pages say you are charged each time your ad is clicked, and that the price of a click moves with supply and demand. A directory listing is a different thing: a page about your business at a flat price, or free. Below is what Yelp says about itself, then how a listing compares.

What Yelp says, in its own words

Each line is quoted from Yelp's own pages, as we read them in October 2026. Follow the link to see it in place.

What Yelp does not publish

Yelp does not publish a price per click. Its help page says the price changes with how many businesses want the same clicks. So nobody can tell you in advance what a click will cost in your trade and town. The monthly budget you set is the limit on what you spend.

We did not find a price for Page Upgrades on the page we read, only that the fee is fixed each month.

Ads on your own Yelp page

Yelp's help centre says most free pages carry ads from similar businesses in the middle of the page, and that removing them is part of a paid Page Upgrade. If you have a free Yelp page, open it as a customer would and see what else is on it.

About Yelp reviews

Some business owners believe advertising affects which reviews Yelp shows. Yelp says it does not. Its Trust and Safety page says reviews of advertisers and non-advertisers are treated exactly the same. We have no evidence either way and make no claim about it.

Other ways to be found

A Google Business Profile is free and is the first thing to get right. It is what shows on the map when someone searches for your trade near them.

Your own website is the one place you fully control. Keep your name, address and phone number the same on it as everywhere else.

A local directory listing is a third. It is a page about your business in a guide to your town, at a price that does not change with clicks.

How a Local Business America listing works

Every business in one of our guides has a free listing, with opening hours, a map and a link to its website. Claiming it is free.

Essentials is $19 a month and adds a photo gallery, an enquiry form, your Google reviews. Premium is $39 a month and adds a boost to the top of your category and a do-follow link to your website. The price is the same every month, and you can cancel any time.

A listing is not a lead service. We do not sell leads, we do not promise calls, and we cover a small number of areas so far. It is a page about your business in a guide to your town.

Common questions

How does Yelp charge for ads?
By the click. Yelp's help centre says each time your ad is clicked, you are charged according to your cost-per-click price, within the monthly budget you set.
How much is a click on Yelp?
Yelp does not publish a figure. It says the price depends on supply and demand at that moment.
Do other businesses' ads show on my Yelp page?
Yelp's help centre says the majority of free Yelp pages have competitor ads in the center of the page. Removing them is part of a paid Page Upgrade.
Does paying Yelp change my reviews?
Yelp says no. Its Trust and Safety page says reviews of advertisers and non-advertisers are treated exactly the same.
Can I cancel Yelp Ads?
Yelp's own page says self-serve advertisers have no term contracts and are free to cancel at any time.
What does a Local Business America listing cost?
Every business has a free listing. Essentials is $19 a month and Premium is $39 a month, whatever the number of clicks. You can cancel any time.
Does Local Business America show other businesses on my listing?
On the Free and Essentials plans, yes. Premium removes other businesses from your listing page. Claiming a listing, which is free, takes the advert off it.
