How did Allied Gardens begin?
Allied Gardens was developed in 1955 by Louis L. Kelton and Walter Bollenbacher. They bought 1,000 acres (400 ha) from the Waring estate. Their original business name was Allied Contractors, and that is where the neighborhood's name comes from.

The Allied Gardens Recreation Center and Allied Gardens Pool are both on Greenbrier Avenue, next to Lewis Middle School. The recreation center sits on land that once held two radio towers. After the towers were moved, the land went back to the city, which built the center after community organizing.
An off-leash dog park by the pool opened in February 2024. Community Little League fields lie further down the hill, just off Greenbrier Avenue on Estrella.
