Gooseberry Falls State Park is 13 miles to the northeast. The city is home to a cargo shipping port for mined iron ore.

Silver Bay is a city in Lake County, Minnesota, United States. While Silver Bay is a port along Lake Superior for iron ore, it does not have taconite mining facilities of its own. However, the town does have a processing plant ran by Cleveland-Cliffs.
Grand Marais
Grand Marais is a city and the county seat of Cook County, Minnesota, United States, of which it is the only municipality. It is on Lake Superior's North Shore. Before it was settled by French Canadians and before Minnesota's statehood, it was inhabited by the Ojibwe.
