What is Towne Lake?

Towne Lake is a planned community in southern Cherokee County, Georgia. It is mostly unincorporated, and part of it lies inside the city of Woodstock. It is not a city of its own, so there is no separate census count for it.

The Means Brothers Company developed it in the late 1980s as a residential area. The name does not refer to an actual lake. It reflects the area's closeness to Woodstock and to Lake Allatoona.

The county it sits in was created in 1831, and its seat is Canton.

Lake Allatoona lies in the southwest of the county and holds most of its water.

What was Towne Lake before it was built?

The land was once part of the Little River State Wildlife Management Area. Locals called the area Thousand-Acre Woods before it was developed.

A tornado struck the hill northwest of the Interstate 575 interchange in November 1992.
